give me liberty

I have to admit: I’ve shrugged in the ever-present face of Liberty of London fabric. Liberty at A.P.C., Liberty at Steven Alan, Liberty for Target. Blah, blah, blah.

But today I started paying attention when I saw this scarf on Fashionista:
Hermes for Liberty London

It’s a Liberty-Hermes partnership. There are a number of different color schemes and sizes, and they’re all pretty gorgeous. Guess who’s all eyes now?

You can pre-order them online here. I myself am heading to London in September (woot woot) and shall check them out in person.

who needs diamonds?

It started with a casual flip through Us Weekly and ended in total fixation. Let me explain: I spotted this striking Lanvin necklace (worn by Claire Danes) and mistook the medium for crochet beads:

The original (and another of Lanvin’s variations, pictured above) are actually enamel, but no matter—the seed had been planted. (FYI, I’m currently working on a version of the above in black pom-poms; I’ll let you know how it goes.)

This is a rather robust infatuation. It’s pervasive on a macro level, in that I can find a fair amount of jewelry out there right now that integrates textiles, but it’s also micro-level, specific. You see, each piece is of infinite interest to behold: so intricate, rich in a multi-sensorial way (gold brilliant to the eye, fabric invoking softness, cold gleam of metallics, warmth of color…). Like this pendant by Wendy Mink:

And these chains at the Brooklyn Flea by A.S.I.S.:

Oh and remember when I raved about Lizzie Fortunato? Well, she’s done a line for Urban Outfitters. Being an obsessive, I just pre-ordered this and another of her necklaces here.

A bit simpler, but still awesome, are these necklaces at Bird:

Now this, I think, is richness. Eat them up.

if I could turn back time

Were I to do it all again (and by ‘all’ I mean spring shopping), I might have gone for the Glory studded flat sandals by Pour la Victoire:

I love how they’re so full of hardware. If they were black with gold hardware, I’d be tracking them down like a ninja. (Actually, they do come in tan with gold hardware; check them out here.)

Woulda, coulda, shoulda—a useless line of thinking, right? In life, there are no do-overs, so instead, let’s look towards the future (i.e., fall) with the Pour la Victoire Lorin ankle boot firmly in mind:

Picture these over some black tights…now that’s what I call hope.

(Pics above swiped off of, and shoes available on, Amazon. But should you wish to buy these locally, check out Oak NYC, Soula in Brooklyn, or LF stores in NY or LA…)

beige or bright

For me, day-to-day handbags come in 2 flavors: utterly neutral or absolutely statement. The former are nearly always a shade of brown (anyone else incapable of carrying a black bag? It just doesn’t feel right!) and, upon first purchase, often prompt Seth to query, “Don’t you already have that?” The latter—admittedly fewer and more far between—are brights (my beloved orange Mayle baby billy bag) or patterns. Like dinner and dessert, there exists a separate appetite for each, and these days, I hunger for these two beauties, below.

Keep it simple (but sharp) with the Hayden-Harnett trophy bag:
