stir it up

Remember that adorable Alison Kelly from Project Runway Season 3? She happened to be on my flight to Cancun in April, and of course I gave her the old once over at least twice. Now that it’s late September, most of the details are foggy, but I can tell you she was wearing yellow and, more notably, she was rocking stirrup pants (with flats). When was the last time I’d seen someone wearing those? I couldn’t tell you. But unlike the ’80s version of the pant, the “stirrup” was not just a strip of fabric-covered elastic sewn to a legging; there was much more foot coverage, almost as if they were tights from which most of the foot and heel had been cut. Yes, they were like stirrup tights, and believe it or not, they actually looked modern.

I saw them on someone else this weekend right on Court Street and now I’m ready to say it: I like them! I want to wear them with my new gold flats. But imagine my surprise– I can’t find them! Or the ones I want, at least. Nothing on shopbop. Revolve Clothing has them, but only in denim– yikes! Active Endeavors has a pair by Daryl K, euphemistically called “Centaur Tights”:

What’s up with the baggy ankle?

Or the HEELS?

Nor do I like the American Apparel Shiny Stirrup Tights, though the foot is spot-on:

A photo of a pair I spotted on The Budget Fashionista looked the most promising (check them out here). These are—shockingly—credited to Victoria’s Secret, but they are not on the site!

Oh Lord of Leggings, what have I done to offend Thee?

Can anyone help a girl out?
