leg up

If I ever drew pause at wearing leggings, those days are long gone. Now, I rarely skip a beat before throwing them on as my everyday comfortwear. How can I resist? All cotton-spandex softness, they’re like sweatpants, but chic. And they’re not just for chicken legs: tightness tames the odd bump or bulge and generally just reigns it all in (they’re not called Spanx for nothing!). Thrown on with flats and a long tee or tunic, and I’m good to go.

For all apparel, what says a new season like new cuts? This spring, legging lengths travel up and down the leg. For those cool spring evenings, I’d tend towards the long, like Rachel Pally’s super long leggings. Isn’t the ankle-bunch charming?

On warmer days, my gams want a more abbreviated cut: shorter than capris, these caught my eye in the Barneys Co-op spring catalog:
short leggings
(My white flats are officially coming out of storage!)
I found a pair of slighter shorter (and way cheap) leggings at Uniqlo on Broadway. Just a little upward tug and they fall nicely between the knee and calf.

Oh and did I mention that May’s Nylon predicts biker shorts “an obvious candidate for trend of the summer”?

I haven’t gone [back] there yet. But never say never.

oh, the shopping you'll do…

…the places you’ll go, while I’m otherwise engaged!

Start with the Built by Wendy Shopping Party, where you can down a glass of wine (or four) as you exercise a 20% discount on all Spring 2007 collection items, in all three BBW stores!

4/19 (6-9)

7 Centre Market Place, NYC
46 N. 6th St., Williamsburg
7938 W. 3rd St., LA

Built by Wendy eagle cloud mini dress
(Last year I scored the Eagle Cloud minidress. Isn’t it cute? FYI, it’s been re-released this spring…)

Next I’d head to billion dollar babes. This sale ain’t all hearts & flowers; you have to sign up ahead of time, rsvp, and at the sale, they charge you to enter the dressing room–it was $10 last year, which I find UNCONSCIONABLE– and hound you mercilessly if you attempt to try on outside the dressing rooms. But all that said, last spring I managed to walk away with a gorgeous sass & bide floor-length silk skirt for $50. So get thee there!

And remember to report back.
