I’m searching for the AKA New York dress I saw a girl wearing yesterday. But I found Revolve Clothing’s outlet site, Reverse. (Am I the only one who jumps to attention when I hear the word ‘outlet’?) The labels are a better fit for me than Net-a-Porter’s The Outnet.

For anyone who’s ever tuned in to Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style or picked up his book– Tim Gunn: A Guide to Taste, Quality and Style– good old Tim advocates ownership of 10 essential wardrobe basics (which, for the record, are: a basic black dress; a trench coat; classic dress pants; a skirt; a blazer; a classic white shirt; a day dress; a cashmere sweater; jeans; and a sweatsuit alternative). In addition to these 10, each and every item, he says, should be “soul-stirring.”

Soul-stirring. That’s a tall order for day-to-day fashion…even formalwear. But still and all, I know what the man means. The ’soul-stirrers’ are those things that strike you, and keep on striking you; the things that delight you perhaps quickly, but repeatedly. (I think the underlying idea is that we should avoid those one-hit wonders that we snatch up and promptly a) forget about or b) regret purchasing.)

Here are a couple of things that are keeping my soul moving:

*Matta’s Dupatta scarf

What is more delightful than a multitude of tiny pom-poms at the throat? Not much, if you ask me. I love the above by Matta, but check out this one that a friend sent me from Texas:

I first saw these on Who What Wear and have been checking in on them on shopbop ever since. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but I’m working on my rationalizations: I always say I should buy more heels; grey goes with everything; they’d be totally cross-seasonal, equally cute with a neon pedicure OR with little black tight-ed toes sticking out. Oh and did I mention they’re totally awesome?

Call me boring, but I really like Longchamp totes. The medium short handle is my preferred means of schlepping my laptop around. It’s so clean, classy & functional–though certainly not as ergonomic as it could be, as I insist on the hand-held style (as opposed to the shoulder-tote style), simply because I think it looks better.

I’d failed to realize that those elegant proportions and unadulterated materials could make an excellent canvas for something a bit more exciting, a bit more fun, until I saw this limited edition Jeremy Scott edition. Love it!

Anyone noticed this Spring/Summer Ferragamo ad? All the lovely shoes just laying around…it drove me directly to eBay, I tell you.

A pair of Ferragamo bow flats (like the ones peeking out from under the tissue paper on the ottoman): definitely on my hit list.

The past few days have found me (and quite a few others, I gather) pretty obsessed with Liberty of London for Target. I tried to go to the Bryant Park Pop-up shop on Wednesday but couldn’t abide the line. And on Friday, I arrived to find it was sold out and shut down.

So what else can a lady with a little extra time on her hands do but head over to the Target at Atlantic Terminal at 8AM this morning? Surprise, surprise, this location sh*t the bed and a fair amount of merch wasn’t yet on the shelves. But the clothes were out, and my review is in: although the prints are lovely, a lot of the fabrics are 100% polyester, and look it. Seek out the cotton instead—it looks far richer—especially the sleepwear (and like my pj set):

OK. This is the second clearly fashion-conscious lady I’ve seen stalking around the borough carrying an IKEA tote. Are we looking at a [kinda funny] trend here?
